Born and raised in Thailand, my love of painting started at an early age. I was fortunate to live in a world where Eastern mythology, Buddhism and its gentle beliefs were intertwined with fairy tales from the West; all paramount in moulding my life and my views on life.
My bedtime stories ranged from Thai folklore to the intrinsically English flower-fairy world of Cicely Mary Barker. Her original Flower-fairy book, read to my sister and me at bedtime by our mother, still remains in the family.
I eventually moved from Thailand to spend 14 years in Africa and my love for animals and nature was further enhanced by the glorious fauna and flora prevalent on that magnificent continent.
My work has been inspired through the years by a number of artists, namely Cicely Mary Barker, Brian Froud, Linda Ravenscroft, Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell, to name a few.
I use a variety of media when painting, depending on how I feel on the day and what I feel each painting needs. This varies from watercolour, inks, coloured pencils and acrylic. A lot of my paintings are further embellished with gold, silver and variegated leaf, semi-precious stones, seed pearls and beads.
My work has been sold through galleries in Ireland and England and is also featured on New Irish Art (www.newirishart.com), an amazing online gallery geared to showcasing the work of Irish artists.
I take on commissions, so please feel free to contact me. And if you’re interested in purchasing any of my work, I would be delighted to hear from you.
